Burnt Honey, Chocolate, Raspberry Cake - My last minute Cake Picnic Creation
My creation for this year's cake picnic - Vanilla bean cake with malted chocolate ganache, raspberry compote, and burnt honey vanilla buttercream
Cake Picnic is my Super Bowl, my Coachella, my Met Gala. Cake Picnic is community-based event where everyone gathers at a central location with a cake of their creation, and suddenly the green lawns or vast loft venues are filled with over 300 cakes. I went to last years in NYC, but this year I’m excited to fly all the way to SF to do it all over again at the Legion of Honor museum. This iteration of Cake Picnic is in partnership with the museum to celebrate their exhibit on Wayne Thiebaud, an artist most known for his paintings of cake and all things sweet. I’m partnering with a cafe and bakery, the Buoy, to make a cake out there in the city, but impulsively decided that I wanted to bake something to bring on the plane with me.
The best part about taking the cake on the plane is that I can’t really decorate it because it will inevitably be crushed during the cross country transport.
More photos and cakes coming soon! I will update this post accordingly when it does. This post and recipe will also be free once cake picnic occurs and content has been uploaded according :^)
